Victoria was appointed as a short-term intern to Kenya in the April 2017 board meeting. She will work with Eddy and Amanda Simmons among the Samburu people, using her nursing skills to minister to the physical needs of the semi-nomadic people group and sharing the gospel.
Kenya, located on the eastern coast of Africa, is cited as 40% evangelical Christian. However, at least 30 unreached people groups numbering close to 5.4 million individuals populate the country. The Simmons and Victoria reside in an isolated region of the country and use chronological Bible storying to share the gospel with the unreached Samburu tribe.
Born into a Christian family with God-honoring parents, Victoria grew up knowing it was important to put God first. Although she prayed to accept Christ as at an early age, Victoria marks a youth conference during her early teen years as the time she fully accepted Christ as Savior. She experienced a hunger for God’s Word and began to study the Bible with a friend. Shortly thereafter, Victoria felt the Holy Spirit nudging her toward missions.
Victoria participated in E-TEAM (a summer missions experience for high school students) traveling to Panama in 2010. She traveled to Mexico on a mission trip with her church as well. During her teen years, she served in various capacities in her church, worked as a camp counselor, and acted as chaplain of her senior class.
Victoria attended Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Florida, where she studied nursing. She participated in three medical mission trips to Honduras, experiencing firsthand the opportunities meeting medical needs offered for sharing the gospel. In 2014, Victoria traveled with the Simmons to Kenya and served the Samburu. This experience sparked her desire to serve for a longer term among this needy people.
She graduated in 2015 with her Bachelor’s in Science in Nursing (BSN). Returning to North Carolina, she worked as a trauma-certified RN in a local hospital for the last two years.
